Gloucester Cathedral Lent Walk
Saturday 5th April 2025 - 14 miles / 8 hours
This fifth Lent pilgrimage is a longer walk, following the Severn valley south from Tewkesbury Abbey to Gloucester Cathedral. Tewkesbury and Gloucester are both ancient pilgrimage places, centred on their great monastic church buildings which date back to Norman times. This route connects these two impressive centres of faith, following a pilgrimage path through meadows alongside the river.
We start at Tewkesbury Abbey, before picking up the riverside path. At Deerhurst we pause to visit one of the best preserved Saxon church buildings in England, which has another ancient Saxon era chapel next door. Then we leave the river for a while to continue through some small villages before arriving into the city of Gloucester and its magnificent cathedral.
Along this route we will focus upon the landscape, how we connect with nature and how this enables us to connect with the Creator. There is an additional option of staying for choral evensong at 4.30pm, before we use public transport to return to Tewkesbury.
Cost: £30. Bring your own lunch.
