Pilgrim Pathways is here! We launched in the Spring of 2024 and it's exciting to be up and running. For the first pilgrimage walk, four brave pioneers walked from Bristol to Pill, along the Avon gorge. At the start of the walk we were kindly given a pilgrims' prayer of blessing by Rev Dr Mandy Ford, Dean of the Cathedral. The journey finished with a glass of prosecco at my home. It's been a huge privilege to meet longstanding friends and to make new ones as we share stories about our life journeys on the road together.
During the summer and autumn we held a number of walks which attracted a variety of people, including a couple celebrating a birthday, a man taking holiday in the West of England from his home in the East Midlands, and a number of folk who were new to the experience of pilgrimage walking.
Walks in the West of England took groups to Gloucester Cathedral, Chepstow Abbey, and a journey along the River Avon in Bristol to discover some of the Methodist heritage. In the North East pilgrims were taken around the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, along St Hilda's Way to Whitby Abbey, walking labyrinths in the Tyne Valley and visiting ancient Saxon churches between the River Tyne and River Wear.
Building on these positive beginnings, I am looking forward to developing the programme over the coming year. This will include greater scope to work with interested people and groups to plan personalised pilgrimages to suit their particular needs, availability and interests. If you would like to discuss what this might look like for you, please do get in touch.
