Wells Cathedral Lent Walk

Saturday 29th March 2025 - 9 miles / 5 hours

DSC00052

This walk follows the edge of the Mendip hills, with superb views across the Somerset levels, visiting a number of historic churches before finishing at the marvellous cathedral in Wells, one of England's smallest cities.  We start at St Aldhelm's church in Doulting, location of an ancient holy well, then largely follow the route of the East Mendip Way through Shepton Mallett, Croscombe and Dinder and into Wells.  Each of these places hosts an interesting church, and the approach to Wells is very attractive, skirting the moated Bishop's Palace.

On this walk we will reflect upon how we connect with the landscape, history and the sacred places which we encounter along the route,  considering what they stir within us.

We finish with the option of choral evensong in the cathedral at 5.15pm.  Return to Doulting is by public transport.

Cost: £30.  Bring your own lunch.
