Broadway to Winchcombe
Saturday 12th July 2025 - 12 miles / 7 hours
This pilgrimage walk follows parts of the Cotswold Way and Winchcombe Way, and gives you the opportunity of finishing with a ride on a heritage railway.
We start at Broadway, one of the most attractive towns in the Cotswolds, nestling at the bottom of the Cotswold edge. The route follows the lower land at the foot of the hills, passing the delightful villages of Stanford and Stanway, before a stop at Stanway House with its impressive gravity-fed fountain.
Continuing onwards the walk arrives at Hailes Abbey, once one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations in Medieval England. After some time in the abbey ruins, we continue into the charming town of Winchcombe, visiting the church of St Peter's Church and the site of Winchcombe Abbey, which once held the relics of St Kenelm.
From here it's a short walk to Winchcombe Station and a chance to catch the last train of the day on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway back to Broadway.
Cost: £50, including entrance fee to Hailes Abbey and Stanway House (but excluding price of train ticket). Please bring your own lunch.
