North East England Day Pilgrimages

83770876 104114311154343 78709

This region offers rich resources to the walker, including the Roman frontier of Hadrian's Wall, as well as places associated with the Celtic Saints, such as Lindisfarne, Whitby and Durham.  This border region reflects its history of conflict which have left a legacy of castles and fortifications. There are relics of a rich industrial heritage, birthplace of the railways and many other innovations.

The North East of England boasts a spectacular and unspoilt coastline and many wild and unpopulated spaces where you feel that the landscape has changed little in centuries.   This region has long been a centre of pilgrimage, and recent years have seen the development of several popular walking routes such as St Cuthbert's Way and St Oswald's Way, as well as the new Northern Saints trails.

Our Programme of walks for the North East has finished for 2024, but in the autumn we will advertise walks for 2025.  Read the 'News' section for more details of this year's walks.
