North East Walks 2024

DSC01521

In June 2024 Pilgrim pathways held four walks in the North East of England:

  • A 12 mile walk along the Esk Valley from Egton to Whitby Abbey, following St Hilda's Way.
  • A 15 mile walk from Jarrow to Monkwearmouth, connecting two ancient Saxon monasteries associated with the Venerable Bede.
  • A 6 mile walk in the Tyne Valley, visiting two retreat centres and walking labyrinths.
  • A 7 mile walk across the sands to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, visiting several of the historic and spiritual sites on this beautiful island.
We were blessed by good weather, with kindness and hospitality along the way from hosts at churches and historic sites.  There was space for quiet and reflection as well as good conversation along the way.

As one walker put it: "I thoroughly enjoyed the day... The route was well-chosen and you conveyed a lot of interesting background information, and of course the company was excellent!"
